Hi guys! I decided to try my hand at a gradient manicure, something I’ve tried before and failed miserably at haha. I did ok this time with the help of this YouTube tutorial. I went for peach and purple colors, and the final result reminds me of a sunset/sunrise 🙂 p.s. please excuse my messy cuticles >_<

Nail Polishes Used: Sinful Colors Skylark, Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac, Sinful Colors Tempest, Sally Hansen Ivory Skull

Base Coat & Top Coat: Revlon Colorstay

Makeup wedge with colors striped on

What I did was cut a makeup wedge in half as suggested by the YouTube tutorial, striped on the purples and peach, and pressed them onto my nail over a white base.

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading! 🙂 Next I’ll have to work on glitter gradients, I still struggle with that!

The Lipstick Tag

National Lipstick Day

Photo cred: communitytable.com

The lovely Katie of Plus+Beauty tagged me to do this, and of course I was super excited to do it! This is totally up my alley. Check out Katie’s post  here! 🙂

The Rules

  1. TAG 3 bloggers to answer these same questions.
  2. Those bloggers will TAG 3 more bloggers of their choice with the same questions & rules.
  3. No tagging back (mentions are fine).

The Questions

1. How many lipsticks do you own?

Umm I would guess somewhere in the range of 50-60. I’m too lazy to count haha.

2. What was your first ever lipstick?

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Fairytale! I only remember this because it was the first makeup product I ever bought, and was pretty much my gateway into the makeup and beauty world. Those lipsticks are great by the way! I went on to buy about 6-7 more of those lippies. I know they revamped that line of lipsticks recently, so I don’t know if the quality or shades has stayed the same.

3. What is your most worn lipstick?

Probably MAC Angel or MAC Brave. Angel I’ve had longer, and I’ve definitely made a dent in it. Angel is such a lovely shade of light pink, and Brave is a great MLBB.

4. What is your favorite brand for lipsticks?

Definitely MAC! I just love how wide their range of colors and finishes is. I’m totally a sucker for their seemingly constant LE collections.

5. What is your favorite finish?

I really love a Matte finish lipstick. They seem to last the longest on my lips and are usually very opaque.

6. What is the last lipstick you bought?

CVS had a sale on Milani lipsticks last week, so I bought three of their Moisture Matte Lipsticks. I only intended to get one shade but of course I walked out with three, plus some NYC liquid lipsticks that I found.

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?

Omg I usually so bad with this-whenever I wear a lipstick out, I just toss it in my bag and then by the end of the week there are like 4-5 lipsticks in there haha! I always forget to put them back. Right now it’s not bad, I have three Jordana lip liners in my bag. I always carry these around in my purse because they are light and don’t take up much space.

8. What lipstick do you use to rock a red lip?

My favorite is MAC Russian Red.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?

I keep my MAC lipsticks and Covergirl Lip Perfection lipsticks in acrylic lipstick organizers. I have a large, rectangular acrylic makeup organizer that I stand lipsticks in. I group them into nudes, pinks, and reds/corals  Whatever doesn’t fit in that organizer is sitting in a small plastic bin with a lot of other random makeup items.

10. What lip products are you currently lusting over?

Ugh, so many! I think I will always lust over the Nars Audacious lipsticks but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing one anytime soon It’s just too pricy for me, even though I know the quality is amazing. There are plenty of quality lipsticks out there with more affordable prices. I’m also lusting anything ColourPop-especially their lippie stix and eyeshadows. I’ve only heard good things about the brand, but I’m trying not to order anything because it will be like opening Pandora’s box haha! I’m afraid I’ll never stop ordering, and of course I have enough makeup as it is (although really it’s never enough lol).

That was fun, thank you for tagging me Katie! 🙂 I’m going to cheat too and tag four people hehe. I tag Alice of Alice’s Wonderland, Bree of Always, Bree, Sam of Glam with Sam, and Melissa of Sober Ramblings of Life and Makeup. I hope you enjoy this tag as much as I did!

Top 5 Spring Fashion Trends

Happy Friday everyone! This post is the final segment of the spring collaboration series with Merisa of Monogrammed Magnolias. Today’s post is about the fashion trends I’m looking forward to wearing this spring. I did a little online search to see what’s the latest and greatest trends from the fashion runways for the spring season. To be honest, there wasn’t much of these trends that I could actually see myself wearing(if you’re curious, here’s a sampling of what’s “in” this season according to the fashion world-yellow, military, sashes, large print floral,70s, and these weird wide-legged capri looking pants that I forgot the name of) . So I’m going to keep it real and stick with some basic, classic trends that I always look forward to wearing in the spring.

As I compiled these pictures, I could tell the theme was dainty-ness and pastels 🙂 That pretty much sums up the styles I like for spring haha!

1. Lace

Gorgeous lace http://rstyle.me/n/v8udin2bn

Ahh lace-who doesn’t love lace?? It’s just so cute and can give you an “I’m a classy lady” kind of vibe. And how gorgeous is this dress? *swoon*

2. Floral

Botanical Occasion Dress. Floral prints make any event more delightful, so don this sleeveless shirt dress by Tulle Clothing and enjoy the party! #modcloth

Florals-the most obvious fashion choice for spring and summer. I just love that there are so many different prints out there to choose from, and anything from dresses to skirts, shirts, pants, even shoes!

3. Black and White

Spring/Summer 2015 #Fashion Trends http://pinmakeuptips.com/update-your-wardrobe-to-the-springsummer-2015-fashion-trends/

Black and white-such a basic combo that is appropriate and classic all year round.

4. Circle Skirt

*sigh* I just love how cute these types of skirts look! Must have!

5. Pastels

Lastly, pastels. Such a mainstay for Spring and it’s super easy to incorporate into your outfits outside of clothing, such as jewelry, nail polish, or makeup.

That concludes my top 5 spring fashion trends! What fashion trends are you looking forward to sporting this spring? Or do you not pay too much attention to fashion trends?

Don’t forget to stop by Merisa’s blog to check out her picks! 🙂 And check out our previous posts if you haven’t yet 🙂

30 Days of Lipsticks Challenge: Week 3

Hello my loves! It’s time for week 3 of my 30 Days of Lipsticks Challenge! If you don’t know what this challenge is about, see my original about it here. Keep reading to see the lip colors I wore this week! 🙂

Lip Colors

L to R: Rimmel Metoric Matte, Tarte Flush, Tarte Moody, Jordana Sedona Red, NYX Istanbul, Jordana Cranberry Crush, Essence In The Nude

Lip Swatches

Swatches & Thoughts

Day 15 Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet “Meteoric Matte”: A deep berry shade with a matte finish. Beautiful color and creamy formula, but it transfers very easily.

Day 16 Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment “Flush”: A strawberry pink color in a twist up/chubby pencil form. This is fairly pigmented and comfortable to wear. It’s got a tacky/waxy formula, which helps it stick to my lips and last a long time on me. It stains my lips a little bit too.

Day 17 Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint “Moody”: A deep wine color in the tube, it sheers out to a lighter version of what it looks like. This one is less pigmented than the Power Pigment but much glossier and more balm-y. It makes my lips look a little plumper. Super comfortable to wear but it does not wear long.

Day 18 Jordana Easyliner “Sedona Red”: A bright cherry red color with a matte finish. It’s matte and does grab on to my lips very well, but doesn’t feel too drying or uncomfortable. A very nice and creamy formula, and the the fact that it’s a liner makes it easy to apply precisely. This wears quite well on me and I love the shade.

Day 19 NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream “Istanbul”: A light pink shade with a slight blue undertone and a matte finish. Not much else to say here, I think the soft matte lip creams are great in general! This is what I wish the Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvets were like-the formula actually sets and stays on my lips without transferring much, and lasts a few hours.

Day 20 Jordana Twist & Shine “Cranberry Crush”: An oldie but a goody, this is a standard chubby lip pencil. It’s a sheer cranberry shade that can be built up for more pigment, and it does leave behind a light stain. Super moisturizing and comfortable to wear.

Day 21 Essence lipstick “In The Nude”: A peachy nude with a very creamy, moisturizing finish. It definitely gives off some shine. It’s not highly pigmented so I do have to build it up, but I think it’s a wearable shade and very comfortable.

Favorites of the Week: Jordana Sedona Red and Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment in Flush.

This challenge is almost over, wow! A little over a week to go. What colors stood out to you this week?

Check out the lip colors from the past weeks if you haven’t already! 🙂  Week 1 Week 2

Review: Love & Beauty Tea Tree Oil Sheet Mask

Hi beauties! Here are my thoughts on this Love & Beauty Tea Tree Oil Sheet Mask that I got at Forever 21 for $1.00. When I saw that it is targeted towards blemished skin, I grabbed it because I figured I might need it at some point. Alas, my skin did start to freak out over the weekend so it was a good time to try this out. When I first opened this, I could definitely smell the signature tea tree oil scent. One thing I noticed is that the mask isn’t very saturated compared to the Baroness (review here) one I also purchased at Forever 21. Another thing that was weird was the shape of the mask-it was wider than it was long, and it didn’t want to stick to my face in certain areas. I think the dimensions were just a bit off. It made it to my chin but only a little bit past my eyebrows (then again I have a big forehead haha). Again, the Baroness sheet mask covered my entire face.

I left the sheet mask on my skin for 20 min and massaged in any excess product into my skin. Did I notice any differences in my skin after using this sheet mask? Nope, nothing. Haha then again, for a $1 I guess I can’t complain. I will say I liked the Baroness brand much better. I still have one more Love & Beauty sheet mask to try, and it’s targeted toward oily skin. I’ll let you know my thoughts on it once I use it 🙂

Top 5 Spring Beauty Trends

Hello beauties! Today, Merisa of Monogrammed Magnolias and I are sharing our Top 5 Beauty Trends for the Spring. This was hard to do because looking through the Spring Fashion Show runway pictures there were so many beautiful looks!

1. Flowy Hair

THIS is what we call glamour. The screen siren hair at Jenny Packham was created using Moroccanoil Root Boost and a 1" tong for curls, brushed through for 1950s-style bouncy waves. The deep side parting kept it current.

I love this wavy hair do-somehow it looks messy and put together at the same time. Definitely a bombshell kind of hairstyle.

2. Pastel EyeshadowPastel was the palette at the Kabuki show where eyelids were washed with a purple haze and the hair loaded with pastel extensions.

I love the light purple eyeshadow, pale colors like this scream spring to me!

3. High Bun

Maybelline's 60s makeup – graphic white eyeliner and top-to-bottom lashes – and fat top knots? There's nothing not to love about the look at Lepore.

I’m really digging the high bun she’s rocking (I have yet to master the high bun, mine always get all sad and droopy LOL). Also, those doll-like lashes are gorgeous!

4. Bright LipsFinally, some hot lips! The makeup trend at Tanya Taylor was courtesy of NARS Playa Dorado Velvet Lip Liner and NARS Timanfaya Satin Lip Pencil. We're shopping them now.

I love this vibrant orange lipstick color. Oranges and corals are a staple for the springtime.

5. Bright EyelinerPeter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, set a modern trend for delicate expressions of colour next Spring. The "Pastel Eyes" were created using laser-cut patches of satin, in a similar ilk to Fendi's demonstration of leather liner. We love this trend! Stick on material eyeliner as you would falsies with eyelash glue and keep the rest of your makeup natural.

Love the pastel shade eyeliner! Time to use some springy colors on my upper lashline other than black!

Those are my top 5 Spring Beauty Trends. Do you keep track of makeup trends? Are there any you are looking forward to trying during the Spring?

Thanks for reading dolls! 🙂 Check out Merisa’s top 5 beauty trends here.

Ulta Haul + Quick First Impressions

I couldn’t resist a trip to Ulta this past Sunday since Maybelline, Almay, Revlon, and Physician’s Formula were 40% off. I also found out that red tag clearance items were an additional 50% off April 11-12. Sadly NYX wasn’t included in the 40% off sale, otherwise my haul would have been a lot bigger hehe.

What I Got & First Impressions

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Paints “Manganese Purple”,”Beige”,”Berry Chrome”,”Peachy Apricot”, “Pomegranate”:These were on clearance and with the additional 50% off they were 65 cents each! Can’t say no to that! These are liquid eyeshadows with a doe foot applicator. They swatch beautifully but actually sheer out quite a bit when blended, so I’ll have to see if I’m able to build these up on my lids without creasing, or if they are better off as eyeshadow bases. I really like the rose gold shade Peachy Apricot, and the berry shades Berry Chrome and Pomegranate. I’m not sure if these are being discontinued maybe? I thought they were relatively new.

NYX Baked Shadow “Sugar Babe”: Another clearance item, which came out to 75 cents. I loved the pinky fuschia color, but unfortunately this doesn’t swatch well dry. I’ll have to try it wet or with a base underneath.

NYX Loose Pearl Powder “Yellow Gold”: This was on clearance and came out to 47 cents. I’ve always wanted to try the NYX loose shadows so I thought this would be a great chance to see whether it would be worth buying other shades. The name describes the shade perfectly-it’s a shimmery yellow gold. The packaging is pretty tiny and it’s hard to get the shadow out because the opening is very small. Only a very small shadow brush would be able to fit through it. The color itself is super pretty and shimmery. It takes a bit of layering to get it to its true color.

Maybelline Brow Precise “Soft Brown”: This is a re-purchase, but I think they may have changed the name of it so I hope the product is still the same. I like how natural this brow pencil looks and how easy and fast it is to use.

Essence Lip Liner “Red Blush”: My fellow bloggers on WordPress have said amazing things about these lip liners, so I decided to try one. I got this red because I was in need of a dark red lip liner, since the ones I have are brighter and more orange toned. It does feel very creamy and pigmented upon first swatch.

Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner “Purple Shock”– On clearance, it came out to 75 cents. I thought this purple shade would be perfect for spring. I don’t really have any eyeliner colors besides black and brown, so I thought its time I start using some colorful eyeliner shades. This eyeliner felt very creamy and pigmented when I swatched it, and it was a little hard to remove from my hand so I think it will be long-wearing.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer “Light”: Another well loved product in the beauty world, yet I’ve never tried it before. It does feel very creamy and the coverage is decent. I think I will exchange it for the shade Fair because Light is a perfect match to my skin, and I was hoping it would be lighter for a brightening effect.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick 340 “Cappucino”: I’ve read that some beauty gurus and bloggers use these foundation sticks in a darker shade for contouring, so I bought one of these to try that out. I picked a bad shade for contouring, as it’s very orange on me. Has anyone used these for contouring and can recommend a better shade for me to try? That would be so helpful! Otherwise I may end up returning it.

Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads: This is another repurchase. They are oil based pads and I like to use them for my stubborn eye makeup. I really only need one for both eyes since they are pretty saturated. I do have to go back with a non-oil eye makeup remover since it leaves behind a lot of oil around my eyes.

Swatches

Top Row L to R: Rimmel Eyeshadow Paints Manganese Purple, Pomegranate, Berry Chrome, Peachy Apricot, Beige, NYX Yellow Gold, NYX Sugar Babe Bottom Row L to R: Rimmel eyeliner Purple Shock, Essence lip liner Red Blush, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer Light, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick Cappuccino

Rimmel Eyeshadow Paint Berry Chrome lightly blended out

Photo cred: ulta.com

I was pretty bummed that NYX wasn’t on sale as well, since I was majorly looking forward to buying several things. I was most looking forward to buying the NYX Highlight and Contour Pro Palette, and the Ulta I was at was out of it. So my patience gave out and I went ahead and ordered it online. I can’t wait til I get it! 🙂

If you are interested in the 40% off sale, it goes through Saturday 4/18. Did any of you already indulge in the sale? Let me know what you got! Also, please let me know if there is anything you would like to see a full review on or a look with?

Much love, Sandy ❤

30 Days of Lipsticks Week 2

Hi everyone! It’s time for week 2 of my 30 Days of Lipsticks Challenge! If you don’t know what this challenge is about, see my original about it here. Essentially, I’m wearing a different lipstick every day for the month of April in an effort to use up lipsticks that I haven’t reached for in awhile or haven’t tried at all. This week I made an effort to try some sample sizes of high end lip products from a set that I got at Sephora during the holidays.

Lipsticks and My Thoughts

Day 8 Wet N Wild “Cherry Picking” A berry pink color with a matte finish. Very pigmented-it drags a little bit but I still think this line of lipsticks is great. The color is long-lasting and is pretty comfortable to wear, so long as you wear some kind of lip balm underneath.

Day 9 NYX Butter Lipstick “Pops” A natural mauve color with a creamy finish. Very moisturizing and comfortable to wear, and also a very flattering color.

Day 10 Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick “Maple Kiss” A warm brownish shade with a cream finish. I got this one in a Walmart Beauty Box and had never worn it. It’s a nice, fairly neutral color with a brown tone. Definitely reminded me of the 90s! I think this shade will be better for Fall and Winter.

Day 11 Too Faced La Creme Lipstick “Naked Dolly” A creamy peachy nude lipstick. It takes a few swipes to get an opaque, even coverage as this is a bit on the sheer side. It’s not the most forgiving on chapped lips either, so now I know I need to exfoliate before using this. It’s a great nudey color though. This is a sample size that I’ve never worn before.

Day 12 Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain “India Intrigue” A bright, berry shade with a glossy finish. Compared to Wet N Wild Cherry Picking, it is slightly darker and more purple. This is actually pretty opaque and the application is made super easy because of the triangle shaped doe foot applicator. I bought a couple of these when they first came out and wasn’t too impressed and never reached for them, but using it again I actually quite like it. I’m typically not a fan of glosses in general, but this one is quite opaque for a gloss and it does leave behind a slight stain. I think part of why I didn’t like them too much when I first got them is because I thought the stain would be more intense,

Day 13 Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss “Nude” Another sample size that I’ve never used before. It is a pinky nude color gloss. It’s quite thick and sticky but very opaque and comfortable to wear. It actually wore for a surprisingly long time, and when the glossiness wore off the color was still on my lips. I was not expecting that at all! It’s funny that it’s called Nude because it’s actually quite pink on my lips.

Day 14 Benefit “Posie Balm” Yet another sample size of something I’ve never worn before. Can you see how much product is in there? When I first opened it I laughed at how little was in there-c’mon Benefit! This is a very sheer light pink balm. It really look some building up to get the color to show on my arm swatch, and it really did not change the color of my lips. It’s quite moisturizing though. Overall though, I don’t see the point in this haha. I think drugstore tinted lip balms are way better in terms of color pay off, and of course price.

Swatches

L to R Days 8-14 : Wet N Wild “Cherry Picking”, NYX “Pops”, Maybelline “Maple Kiss”, Too Faced “Naked Dolly”, Revlon “India Intrigue”, Stila “Nude”, Benefit “Posie Balm”

So that’s it, my second week of lip colors! I’m halfway done with the challenge 🙂 What colors stood out to you this week, and have you tried any of these already? What are your thoughts?
